Dorothy Lander Shares Letters and Pictures from Floridian First Graders!

Sharing Finger Lakes Foliage with Young Floridians turns into a Treasure of Letters and Drawings!

Last Fall, Dorothy (Dot) Lander collected a box of colorful leaves and sent them to her daughter, Janet, who is a 1st grade teacher in Florida. Janet's students, many of whom had never been exposed to the beautiful Fingerlakes colors, responded in a most thoughtful way.  They drew pictures and composed letters. Dot was so surprised and overcome with joy when she opened the package.

These pictures and letters have been displayed in the CM living room this week for all CM residents, staff, families and visitors to enjoy! A big thank you to Dot for sharing with all of us.  We have been in awe of the thoughful messages, the drawings, and the amazing penmanship coming from such young children.

"The Marathon Man"

For the past 20 years or more, our Marathon Man, has been walking for exercise.  Participating in the National Veterans Golden Age Games, he took home the gold in power walking!  After moving to Clark Meadows, he continued to exercise at the VAMC in Canandaigua, using the pool and also walking the track.  With the onset of Covid-19, his trips to the VA have been curtailed.  Not one to sit down for long, this gentleman started walking the halls and the nature path around the community, weather permitting.

Residents and staff alike wanted to know how many miles he was walking.  With a pedometer attached, and a starting day of Friday, April 24th through Friday, May 1st, our Marathon Man, 88 years of age, completed 29 miles!  From our gold medal winner.....he states, " The whole idea is to encourage others to keep moving if they see me walking.  It's about keeping healthy in our community."
