Soup's On! Soup's On! All Delicious and All Homemade by Our Staff! KristenMeyer / Tuesday, January 14, 2025 0 1718 The Clark Meadows/Ferris Hills Kitchen staff set a high bar in the culnary department. They provide an excellent menu offering healthy delicious meals every day. In an effort to change things up a bit, the staff who do not work in the kitchen wanted to share some of their soup recipes with our residents. The residents were eager to taste and we were honored to have our head chef, Tony Cafarelli, sous chef, Dan Cobb, and long-time dining associate, Brittni Hewitt, come in at the end to critique our soups. They gave us all gold stars! The Soup Bar Lunch included Melissa's Tomato, Basil & Orzo soup, Beth's Butternut Squash, Kristen's Black Bean, Claire's Steak & Potato, Dave's Pasta Fagioli, Rebecca's Meatball Stew w/Orzo & White Beans, and Jenn's Stuffed Pepper Soup. Thank you all for helping with this Soup Bar lunch special. It was a success! Read more
Grandfriends! Grandfriends! KristenMeyer / Monday, January 13, 2025 0 764 Children’s voices in our community are a welcome sound. Today, Grandfriends were here. Melissa, on our activities team, was ready with a flat snow globe craft for the kids and the Grandfolks to work on together. This group of homeschooled children has been coming here since our 4-H farm and tractor show that was held in the summer. Megan Miller and Jessica Manning are two of the mothers working with our activities team to coordinate these monthly visits. Last month they helped us build gingerbread houses. Megan said, “what’s not to love about working with sprinkles and now glitter!” She said the kids look forward to coming here. She has a child who is on the shy side and this experience has helped her blossom and to become more confident as she interacts with our residents. The smiles on our resident’s faces speak volumes. It is a win-win for both generations. The children’s ages range from 4 years to 17 years old. This is a gem of an activity brought to Clark Meadwos by our team of caring recreation planners. The True Meaning of Christmas The True Meaning of Christmas KristenMeyer / Friday, January 3, 2025 0 4388 Since the beginning of December, so much has happened at Clark Meadows. It was hard to keep up with our activity’s coordinator and her team. They planned so many wonderful activities and events. The magic of the holidays was brought to Clark Meadows in a special way this year with this new team of creative energy. We have our fun traditions at Clark Meadows, but every year there are moments created that make each year memorable. It is a time where we do miss those who aren’t with us anymore, but with the help of our activities team we created a lot of busyness, but most importantly joy. Before we knew it, it was Christmas Eve. On December 24th some of us gathered for a candlelight service. Residents from Clark Meadows and Ferris Hills participated with readings and musical performances. We turned on our battery-operated candles as we sang the closing hymn, Silent Night. It reminded me of candlelight services I attended as a child, but this one was different. This community touches me as I’m sure it does many of our staff. The kindness, beauty, and truth that we experience from our elderly give us courage to face life cheerfully. It is a privilege to work here and participate in the daily lives of our residents. I took that candle with me that night and it lighted my way home. Read more

Margaret / Monday, February 17, 2020 / Categories: Clark Meadows Blog Clark Meadows Chums By Andrea Deckert Daily Messenger freelancer Appeared in The Daily Messenger, December 2019. MPNNOW.com: Posted Dec 5, 2019 at 12:02 AM CANANDAIGUA — Lynne Standish (photo on right) knows change is never easy. She also knows everyone could use a good chum. That’s why Standish developed the Chums group at Clark Meadows at Ferris Hills. The group serves as a welcoming committee to those moving into the enriched living community, with the purpose of helping with the life transition. “We don’t want anyone to feel like the new kid on the first day of school,” said Standish, who handles sales and marketing duties for Clark Meadows. “We want to create a welcoming environment and make the transition as easy as possible.” Clark Meadows provides enriched living to senior citizens, ages 55 and older. An enriched housing program is one of three models of assisted living in New York and is a state-licensed adult care facility providing long-term residential care. Residents can choose studio or one-bedroom apartments. Services range from 24-hour help with daily tasks and medication management to daily meal options, housekeeping services and recreational programs. Each new resident is assigned a Chum. Chums can also meet with future residents and their family members prior to moving in, or even those who are still deciding if it the location is right for them. In fact, it is not uncommon for residents, or their families, to tell Standish the Chum group meeting was a key factor in their decision to move to Clark Meadows. While Standish can tout the benefits of living at Clark Meadows and give reasons as to why someone should choose to move in, it is different hearing it from someone who already lives there. “It’s a good way to get the scoop,” Standish said. In addition to lunch together when a new resident arrives, Chum duties range from assisting with introductions to helping a new resident get acclimated to one’s surroundings. Chums can let them know where the café, fitness center and mail room are located, as well as reviewing the weekly calendar with them to determine what upcoming activities a new resident may enjoy. There are five current Clark Meadow Chums: Corrine Barnett, Dr. Al Ginkel, Margaret Hanover, Sylvia Markowitz and Beverly Rawlings. Each wears a name tag that denotes their status as a Clark Meadows Chum. Rawlings is the newest Chum, having joined the group in April. “I like helping people and always enjoy saying hello,” Rawlings said of her decision to join the group. Helping others is a common theme among Chums’ members, as is an outgoing and friendly demeanor. Hanover recalls how welcome the Chums made her feel when she moved to Clark Meadows roughly 1-1/2 years ago, and she wanted others to feel just as welcomed. She says the questions she often gets from families and potential residents are the same ones she had herself, from practical ones like what’s the routine and what medical staff are available on-site to more personal ones such as how’s the food and is it easy to make friends. Ginkel said the group has benefits for not only new residents, but for Chums as well. “I’m not always good with names, but once I’ve met you as a Chum I will know your name forever,” he said.
